Echoes of More-than-human is a playful participatory speculative design workshop that explores the shifting role of design in the age of ecological crisis and post-anthropocentric thinking. Grounded in more-than-human design theory and critical futures practice, the workshop invites participants to reimagine relationships between humans, animals, and emerging technologies.
Through a series of structured exercises, participants will:

Engage in embodied warm-up activities that build empathy and collective awareness.
Draw from a curated set of non-human species to explore unique biological traits, environmental challenges, and adaptive strategies.
Utilize guided worksheets to analyze these species’ relationships to ecological systems and anthropogenic impact.
Speculate on human–non-human collaboration through the lens of emerging technologies such as AI, AR, and quantum systems.
Prototype and communicate speculative interventions that propose new forms of coexistence, adaptation, or technological mediation.
The prototype
The session culminates in a collective presentation of short “future dispatches”, rapid video prototypes or advertisements for speculative tools and services designed to assist non-human agents.
By integrating speculative design, ecology, and media storytelling, the workshop aims to cultivate critical reflection on the boundaries of human-centered design and to explore alternative frameworks for multispecies futures.

No prior design experience is required;
participants from art, science, humanities, and technology backgrounds are welcome.
Framework in Practice
The More-than-Human Design Framework has been applied in participatory workshops and educational settings. Through species-centered research, speculative storytelling, and collaborative prototyping, the framework encourages participants to challenge human-centered design and imagine alternative futures for multispecies coexistence.
